Copy and paste image files to control placement

I was preparing a Pages document with some images. I was becoming pretty frustrated dragging and dropping the images from the Finder to Pages, only to see that every time the images were not placed where I wanted them.

So I tried selecting the image file itself in the Finder, copying it, switching to Pages, placing the cursor where I wanted the image to appear, and then pasting. It worked perfectly, and saved me a bunch of time. This may sound pretty simple, but it may not be obvious to everyone, and it’s actually very useful sometimes.

[robg adds: In addition to Pages, this works in the rest of the iWork suite and many other programs. Just copy the image file you’d like to use, switch to your chosen app, place the cursor, and paste.]
